During the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty, Yan Liben encountered Di Renjie (played by Ren Jialun) who was wrongly imprisoned. After helping him save himself, he discovered that he was a case solving genius. Coincidentally, the emperor sent him to the Ganye Temple to investigate the case, so he decided to take Di Renjie along. At Ganye Temple, Di Renjie solved a strange case, resolved a Buddhist catastrophe, and became acquainted with Wu Meiniang.
